Our Brief History

Founded in 1986 by the Diocese of Dar es Salaam as a technical institution called the Oysterbay Technical School, under management of St Peter’s Oysterbay parish, the institution within the framework of spiritual and philosophy of St. John Bosco, focused in providing technical skills to disadvantaged young people so that they become skilled worker and contribute to their development and national as well. By then, the school had only one classroom, a store and a woodwork workshop, conducting only one course, namely carpentry.

Four years later, in 1990, the school was handled over to the Salasians of Don Bosco and immediately the major expansion of the school began, this included the construction of compound wall which completed in 1992, and the Chacko House, the first Salasians house which completed in 1993 respectively. Since then the school has witnessed tremendous experiences both historically and developmentally.

Today, with several well established facilities within 10 departments, the institution, now called Don Bosco Oysterbay VTC, has become a major center for the development of skilled workforces in more than 10 occupation and trades to more than 400 youth in a year and prepare them for a successful formation of moral and human value.
